Introduction of Flat Flex PCB
Flat Flex PCB are lightweight, compact boards with a cable-like profile that can be crimped into a variety of shapes.
They are particularly suitable for realizing high-density electrical connections.
However, existing FPCBs may encounter stress problems during frequent dynamic bending.
Flat Flex PCB By Feature
- Only one side has conductive traces.
- Usually used for simple applications at a low cost. If you have cost concerns, consider a Single-Sided Flex PCB.
- Conductive traces on both sides, possibly connected via through holes.
- Suitable for applications requiring more complex wiring.
- Constructed by alternately stacking multiple layers of conductive traces and insulating layers.
- High-density circuit design is possible.
- Combine the characteristics of rigid and flexible PCBs.
- Certain areas are rigid while others are bendable.
- Similar to a Flexible PCB, but mainly used to connect two components or devices.
- Typically, it has a thin flexible substrate and fine conductive traces.
- A flat cable combines a rigid and a flexible part.
- Ideal for applications requiring complex wiring in limited spaces.
Flat Flex PCB By Material

Polyimide is used as a flexible substrate material with excellent heat tolerance, outstanding electrical and mechanical properties, and insulating characteristics.

Polyester (PET) baseboard materials are generally used where cost-effective flexible PCBs are desired but have a lower heat tolerance than polyimide.

PTFE baseboard materials offer superior resistance to chemicals as well as being non-sticky making them suitable for flexible PCBs in particular circumstances

Ceramic substrates, although not flexible, are used in some special applications in conjunction with a functional material to provide extra support and heat control.
Benefits of Flat Flex PCB
Flat Flex PCBs have many advantages over ordinary printed circuit boards.
- Extreme durability: In moving parts, the boards can withstand up to 5 million bending cycles without damage.
- Ultra-long life: PCBTOK’s Flat Flex PCBs are designed for repeated bending over time, providing durability beyond conventional wiring.
- Efficient Heat Dissipation: The flat design provides a larger heat dissipation area and a shorter heat transfer path than round wires, dissipating heat more quickly.
- Extremely Lightweight: Our PCBs are thinner and weigh significantly less than traditional cables.
- Slim profile: Ultra-thin design easily meets the challenges of designing in space-constrained environments.
- Easy to Route: Multi-foldable routing design simplifies routing in tight spaces.
